Gather Collective Safeguarding Policy Statement

FOR THE PROTECTION OF CHILDREN AND ADULTS

Gather Collective is committed to the safeguarding of children and adults with care and support needs and ensuring their well-being.

• We recognise that we all have a responsibility to help prevent the physical, sexual, psychological, financial and discriminatory abuse and neglect of adults at risk of harm and abuse and to report any such abuse that we discover or suspect.
• We recognise the personal dignity and rights of adults and will ensure all our policies and procedures will reflect this.
• We believe all adults should enjoy and have access to every aspect of the life of Gather Collective.
• We undertake to exercise proper care in the appointment and selection of those who will work with children and adults with care and support needs.
• We believe every child should be valued, safe and happy. We want to make sure that children we have contact with know this and are empowered to tell us if they are experiencing significant harm.

We are committed to:

• Following statutory guidelines in relation to safeguarding children and adults and will ensure that as an organisation, all workers will work within the agreed procedure of our safeguarding policy.
• Implementing the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Acts 1995 and 2005, Equality Act 2010 and all other relevant legislation.
• Supporting, resourcing and training those who undertake this work.
• Ensuring that we are keeping up to date with national and local developments relating to safeguarding.
• Ensuring that everyone agrees to abide by these recommendations and the guidelines established by Gather Collective.
• Supporting all in the organisation affected by abuse.

We recognise:

• Children’s Social Services has lead responsibility for investigating all allegations or suspicions of abuse where there are concerns about a child. Adult Social Care has lead responsibility for investigating all allegations or suspicions of abuse where there are concerns about an adult with care and support needs.
• Where an allegation suggests that a criminal offence may have been committed then the police should be contacted as a matter of urgency.
• Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.

We will review this statement and our policy annually. The last review was: April 2024

Summer Fun Morning

Wednesday 13 August  *  10:00am – 12 midday

Gather Community Garden
(Churchdale Allotments – on the path from Churchdale Road to Wickes/Bookers/Argos area)

Bring a picnic and stay afterwards to eat and chat

It’s all free.

• Our Bird Feeder is a busy place. Sit on the deck and watch who comes to visit.
• Soil Square Metre. Dig around with a small gardening trowel and see what you can see.
• Feed the Chickens. When you book your slot we will remind you what they eat and you can bring them their favourites.
• Wildlife in the Quiet Garden. Sit in the calm and observe the bees, butterflies and any number of other creatures, great and small.
• Picture This Memory Catcher. Use a small camera or smartphone to capture something beautiful around the community garden which will remind you of your time with us.
• Mystery Activity – dependent on what is happening that day on site.

We will also give you a discovery bag to use during your visit to help identify the birds, bugs, plants and fruits you will see around the site.

You can use the Discovery Deck each weekday morning between 9.30 and 12.00 midday. There will also be some availability on Saturdays or Sundays and afternoons but this will noted below when available.

The activity can be undertaken by anyone but family or household groups should have at least one adult for every 4 children. Other children’s groups should also have a one adult, 4 children ratio. Adult groups are also welcome. Armed with the activity guide you will be moving at your own pace and will be responsible for their care if there are children in your group.

There is no charge for this activity but donations will be very welcome when you come to visit. The suggested donation if you can help in this way is £3 per participant.
